The Coming One: What Scripture Teaches About the End Times
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Is the Lord Jesus Christ really coming back to earth again in person to complete His glorious plan of redemption for humanity—with believers ruling and reigning with Him? In The Coming One, legendary author and pastor A. B. Simpson provides a comprehensive teaching on a topic that has been debated and theorized throughout history: the second coming of Jesus Christ. Among the topics Simpson addresses are:
- The premillennial versus postmillennial theories
- The church age
- The world powers
- The plan for Israel
- The false prophet and the antichrist
- The great tribulation
- The millennial reign
- The new heaven and earth
- Signs of the end times
From Simpson's thoughts on the antichrist:
"Too much has been made of the personal description of the Man of Sin, and it is too hastily assumed from this description that he must be an individual man. The argument is not as forcible as it seems. Regarding the vision of Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel declared, in interpreting it to the king, 'Thou art this head of gold' (Daniel 2:38). A literal interpretation would require that the vision must be fulfilled in the personal history of the king himself. We know, however, that it was fulfilled in the kingdom of Babylon, of which he was the head and representative. The individual ever passes; the office remains. Theoretically, the king never dies, although the individual kings are constantly changing. In this sense, then, the 'man of sin' (2 Thessalonians 2:3) may well represent a great system of evil, the system that is described, in the same passage, as 'the mystery of iniquity' (2 Thessalonians 2:7). And yet, there is nothing to forbid a double interpretation of these prophecies—first, as a system of evil lasting through long centuries; and second, as one great leader in whom the whole system and perhaps all other systems of evil will be headed up for the final conflict."

As time grows short, it has never been more crucial for believers to give careful attention to God's future plan as laid out in Scripture. As we prepare personally for that glorious day, we must also invest our lives in helping those who are lost to become citizens of the eternal "city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God" (Hebrews 11:10)—the New Jerusalem.
