The Meaning of Life
“We think that humanity is the originator of thought, but we are not. We are receptacles.”
Martha Kilpatrick, The Meaning of Life
What is the meaning of life? Better yet, how do we find the meaning of life? There is a thread through the scriptures of what God wants from man. And what is it? What does God want from us most of all? Is it love? Or worship? Or service? What does God ask of us again and again in scripture after scripture? “Diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 28:1).
“If you are getting light from the scriptures, then it is because Jesus is reading them to you.”
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice.” Do you hear the voice of God? When difficult situations arise or relationships fall apart, does God speak a specific word to you for that situation or in that crumbling relationship? Are you listening for His voice?
In The Meaning of Life, Martha delivers a powerful reminder that God absolutely means what He says. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4 NKJV). If your life is lacking in the vigor and passion that God promised His children, then you may need the food that God’s voice alone holds. If you struggle to discern the will of God for your daily life and walk, then you may not be listening for the Words that carry it. The Meaning of Life points to the only Source of true sustenance and provides new clarity on the unmistakable importance of listening to the voice of God every day, in all things.
“If we could just glimpse the power that comes from God’s voice into our lives, we would run and beg Him to speak!”
