The God We Don't Know
Who is the God we don’t know?
For thou shalt worship no other god; for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God…
Exodus 34:14 KJV
What do we know about the Song of Solomon? What do we see in the story of Phinehas? Have we learned the lessons of King Saul? Have we even glimpsed the depth and breadth of the passion God has for His own? Do we recognize the hand of our jealous God when it comes after the other loves we’ve pursued instead of Him?
“God’s jealousy is the only jealousy in the universe that’s pure. And when you are the vessel of God’s jealousy, because you love God, then your jealousy will be pure of motive, too.”
Martha Kilpatrick, The God We Don’t Know
Humanly, we’ve all been touched by jealousy. But the jealousy of God, “whose name is Jealous,” is a mystery to most of us. This is a side of God that too many of us don’t know. We call Him “Love” all the time, but rarely do we call Him “Jealous.” We need to know the God whose name is Jealous and learn to recognize His passionate pursuit of us behind the many difficult situations that arise.
Martha Kilpatrick’s The God We Don’t Know looks at the jealousy of humanity, Satan, and of course, God. From the murderous pitfalls that accompany Satanic jealousy to the blazingly hot fire of redemptive love that is at the heart of our jealous God, this message of the month is full of wisdom and warning in equal measure. Isn’t it time to know the God whose name is Jealous?
