Richness of the Poor, The
Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the poor in spirit (the humble, who rate themselves insignificant), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
Matthew 5:3 AMPC
Do you know firsthand the richness of the poor?
Who are “the poor in spirit” who Jesus promised such enormous blessing in the Beatitudes? What is it about them that the whole of the kingdom of heaven is theirs? We would do well to find the answers to these questions—and soon! When all that can be shaken will be shaken except for the kingdom of God, we have great need of entrance to that unshakable kingdom. And for that, we really need to know how God defines “the poor in spirit.”
In The Richness of the Poor, Martha says, “We have an innate, abject, destitute need of God, and that’s our reality. But we don’t always live in it.” This statement goes right to the heart of this anointed message: Is our need of God the actual, daily reality in which we live? Do we walk through life in the truth of our desperate need, or are we living in the delusion of self-sufficiency?
“Most of our problems, frustrations, and distress are because we refuse to be reduced to the reality of our absolute poverty.”
Martha Kilpatrick, The Richness of the Poor
